The coming of Spring brings with it new opportunities for eager volunteers to dust off the cobwebs, get into the sunshine, and make an impact in local communities. At Civic Champs, we are continuing to spotlight nonprofits across the nation by and next week we are highlighting the celebrated city of Atlanta. The Big Peach is a hub that embraces its community’s deep history. Below are some incredible nonprofits that are supporting Atlanta natives and nurturing their city’s caring culture. Catholic Charities Atlanta

Driven by humanity and compassion, Catholic Charities Atlanta strives to support families. They value giving people the ability to achieve self-sufficiency through their resources. The CCA focuses many of their efforts on underserved immigrants and refugees. Each person served has a deeply personal experience, receiving a holistic combination of accredited social services. Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta

The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta has one main mission- turn houses into homes. The nonprofit distributes donated furniture to those in need. Over 5,600 pieces of furniture were given to families in need in 2019 alone. The organization also employs homeless veterans to further their commitment to their community. Destined for Greatness Outreach Center

Youth empowerment programs and mentoring outreach are two areas the Destined for Greatness Outreach Center focuses on. Their services are centered around the needs of underserved youth, empowering them to become the greatest they can be. Programs range from fitness classes to after school tutoring to work studies. Helping Mamas

With over 300,000 children living in poverty in the metro Atlanta area, Helping Mamas’ mission is more important than ever. They service hundreds of mothers in need and provide significant financial relief through their donations. Their initiative has resulted in the distribution of over 1 million essential items that are invaluable to their recipients. These donations range from diapers to strollers to hygiene items.
